How do i make my own myspace icons, using my own images and editing them as well?

I really want to be able to make my own myspace icons to decorate with. i want to use my own images and add things or edit things on those images to make it my own personal icons. i do not know how to do it. I know someone said i need a GIF thingy i have no idea most of the images i want to use a jpg's. im really confused
